This fragrant, elegant tree is known for its great height, straight trunk, and fern-like branches

  • Can reach heights of 200 feet
  • Pleasant fragrance - quintessential woody smell
  • Adaptable: can grow in many types of soil, sun or shade, and drought tolerant
  • Oils within the bark repel insects (why it’s a popular choice as a building wood)
  • Young trees have orange-brown bark that becomes deeply ridged and greyish with age
  • Can live to be 1,000 years old

  • Easily access this park-like section of flat areas with lush understory
  • Enjoy leisurely walks and picnics among abundant ponderosa pines
  • See soaring hawks – and, in spring and summer, butterflies and blooming Larkspur

Ponderosa Passage greets forest visitors at the entryway, just off the main drive. Primarily composed of young ponderosa pines, this section is flat and easily accessible.

The lush grass understory and well-spaced trees in Ponderosa Passage create a park-like feel, making this section a customer favorite for leisurely walks and picnics.

Trees here are separated by a wetland meadow that runs through the center of the section.
