This Ironwood tree stands strong in the Riverside Rise section. It has plenty of character, with a distinct curve near the base of the tree. Located up the hill near the river, this tree may be suited for the more adventurous crowd. Those willing to make the trek to the tree will be welcomed by a sprawling canopy and great views of the river.
This section sits slightly back from the river on an elevated slope connecting the riverside to the deeper forest. Through the trees you can see filtered water views.
You’ll also spot abundant wildlife year round, like wild turkeys, deer, and other small woodland animals.
Oak and hackberry trees make up the majority of trees in this section. In winter, mockingbirds and robins feed on the hackberries, and in summer many butterfly species flutter through the air.
An easy five minute walk from the Welcome House, Riverside Rise is the most conveniently located section of the forest.
Trees here are separated by a small ravine that runs through the southern portion of the section.
You and your loved ones can visit your tree and the entire forest at any time during the spring, summer, and fall. The Rock River forest is open for regular visiting hours from April–October, Thursday–Monday. Just contact our team to make an appointment in advance.
