Majestic and long-lived, White Oaks are strong and hardy. In fall, their leaves become a bold red wine color.

  • Hard, durable, decay-resistant wood used to make barrels, furniture, lumber and historical ships
  • State tree of Illinois, Maryland and Connecticut
  • Known for its large size and attractive foliage
  • Can live to be over 600 years old

  • Easily reach this section from the Welcome Area and parking
  • Stroll and picnic in natural clearings with grassy, level ground and rolling hills
  • Explore deer paths through some of the largest trees in the forest

This is the most conveniently located section of the forest, with easy access to the Welcome Area and parking.

Natural clearings create space for sunlight to filter through generously spaced trees. The ground is level, other than a few rolling hills. The lush grass understory creates a park-like feel, making this section a customer favorite for leisurely walks and picnics.

Deer paths meander through this section, amid some of the largest trees in the forest.

The southern edge runs parallel with the main road and can be seen by passersby. The trees here greet visitors as they enter the property and act as a natural barrier, protecting the rest of the forest from road noise.
