Majestic and long-lived, White Oaks are strong and hardy. In fall, their leaves become a bold red wine color.

  • Hard, durable, decay-resistant wood used to make barrels, furniture, lumber and historical ships
  • State tree of Illinois, Maryland and Connecticut
  • Known for its large size and attractive foliage
  • Can live to be over 600 years old

  • Immerse yourself in this deeply tranquil, private section of the forest
  • Explore the valley (created by a seasonal stream) that edges Woodland Theatre
  • Walk easy winding trails through rolling hills, with lush shade in spring and summer

Woodland Theatre has a true “heart of the forest” feel, where quiet surroundings amplify the sounds of nature. Deep in the forest, this section offers a sense of privacy.

A seasonal stream meanders along its eastern edge, creating a natural valley that separates Woodland Theatre from the rest of the forest.

Gentle rolling hills with winding trails add character to this easily walkable section of the forest. In spring and summer, the lush canopy overhead provides ample shade, invoking a secluded and tranquil feel.
