What makes this forest special
The forest is located in the Rock River Valley, a popular destination for wilderness escapes from Chicago. The area boasts over 11,000 acres of state parks and conservation areas, forming a valuable stretch of contiguous wildlife habitat of which this forest now forms a critical part. A diverse array of tree species thrive here: red and white oak, black walnut, shagbark hickory, black cherry and more. So do abundant wildlife, such as foxes, beavers, and bald eagles. When you purchase a memorial tree in Rock River, you contribute to the protection of forestland and wildlife habitat that your loved ones can enjoy – now and for years to come.

What you’re protecting
Better Place Forests Rock River is home to a wide variety of native tree species and serves as a critical piece of a contiguous, undeveloped stretch of land along this river’s corridor. It provides rich habitat for wildlife and a migratory pathway for a variety of birds. Part of our work involves removing invasive species, thinning and pruning so older trees can thrive, and restoring the land to its natural state.

View all treesOur team will help you plan a forest memorial to create an experience that’s right for you, and the ashes of loved ones and pets can join your tree in the future if you choose. When the time comes, ashes are mixed with local soil and placed at the base of your tree, becoming part of the forest.
To choose your tree, you can book an online forest tour with one of our advisors. For more information, visit How Better Place Forests Works.
