Learn about Better Place Forests sustainable Memorial Forest and find your perfect tree

Whether you’re planning for yourself, a family member, or making arrangements for a loved one, choosing a resting place is an important and deeply personal decision, one we know requires thoughtfulness and care.

With any important decision, we know there are important questions to answer. What if I change my mind? What happens if my tree is damaged? How will my family know which tree is mine? We are here to help guide you through any questions you may have. Choosing your resting place is a decision that can be made just a little easier knowing that there’s a caring, qualified team there to support you every step of the way.

Here at Better Place Forests, we want to inspire everyone to write a better ending to their story. This commitment starts with our 100-day refund policy

Above all, we want your private tree to be a resting place that’s right for you. If it isn’t, and no ashes have been spread beneath your tree, Better Place Forests promises a full refund anytime within 100 days of your purchase.

We want you to choose a beautiful and meaningful memorial place, even if you decide it isn’t within one of our forests.

We will take care of your tree

Your resting place should be protected and reliably cared for. When you choose Better Place Forests, you can rest assured that we’ll protect your legacy and the tree it lives in.

That means if your memorial tree dies after ashes have been spread, we’ll do all we can to plant a new tree in that spot, or close to, your original tree. If your tree dies and ashes have not yet been spread, we’ll help you choose a comparable tree within the same forest.

In the event of a fire or natural disaster, we’ll re-plant your tree – or if possible – we will restore and/or repair damage. Our arborists hire and work proactively with local experts to make this possible, following forest management best practices and doing all that we can to reduce the risk of fire damage and disease.

We will honor your legacy

If you choose to create a family tree, you will have the option to update the tree’s memorial marker after each memorial ceremony. Our memorial markers are small bronze circles, reminiscent of those used by the US Geological Survey (USGS) to mark important locations. You may customize what is written on your marker, and will always have the opportunity to list all of those who’ve been spread at the tree.

We will steward the forest

We have both the forests’ and your family’s best interests at the forefront of our work. When you choose a private tree with Better Place Forests, you’re contributing to protecting a healthy forest ecosystem across the country. We protect and conserve our forests so that your family can count on having an accessible, preserved memorial, and it’s a commitment we take very seriously.

To uphold forest stewardship practices, we work with local land trusts and conservation organizations to champion the permanent protection of the forest.
